'You are getting stepped on': Conor McGregor trolls Khabib Nurmagomedov ahead of UFC 229
UFC star Conor McGregor has trolled Khabib Numagomedov ahead of their highly anticipated championship fight.
The lippy Irishman has been unusually quiet in the lead up to his return to the UFC but couldn’t resist a cheeky trademark jab at Nurmagomedov over social media this week.
“Step by step,” Nurmagomedov posted on Instagram accompanied with a training photo.
"Step by step you are getting stepped on,” McGregor fired back accompanied with a video of himself unleashing a thumping combination on his sparring partner.
McGregor has taken a decidedly restrained approach ahead of his return to the UFC when compared to the theatrics of last year’s ‘money fight’ with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather.
That bout saw the pair go toe-to-toe in the ring, with a pre-fight build-up that at times reached farcical status as the pair looked to squeeze every dollar out of the highly publicised encounter.
McGregor’s date with Nurmagomedov is of a different ilk however, as the Irishman looks to defend his reputation in the octagon and silence the growing camp of the Russian’s supporters.
Friday will mark the pair’s first official public encounter as they meet face-to-face at the pre-fight press conference in New York.
McGregor and Numagomedov will square-off in UFC 229 on October 7th (AEST).
It will mark his first fight in the UFC since his cross-code foray into boxing.
