Newly surfaced footage has shown Conor McGregor throwing punches as he attempted to join the all-in brawl that headlined his devastating loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229.

Pundits were quick to praise McGregor who upon first appearances appeared to extricate himself from the fracas sparked by his opponent, even as the Irishman was coward hit by members of the Russian’s team.

However, new footage circulating on Twitter shows McGregor attempting to leap the cage as he swings at an unknown man dressed in black.

Following the mayhem mixed martial arts expert Joe Rogan expressed concern for the Irishman after he was blindsided with cheap shots, and praised his restraint.

“That was disgusting…Khabib's friends jumping into the ring and attacking Conor is just completely cowardly,” Rogan said.

“Conor wasn’t participating in this by the way, they jumped him when he was just recovering from getting beaten.”

That adulation may have been premature.

Following the drama Nurmagomedov refused to back down as he called out McGregor for his ‘disrespectful’ pre-fight antics.

"I don’t understand how people can talk about how I jumped on the cage," Nurmagomedov said.

"What about (when) he talked about my religion?

"He talked about my country, he talked about my father. He (came) to Brooklyn and he broke a bus, almost killed a couple of people.

"I don’t want people to talk s--t about opponents, talk s--t about his father, religion.

"This is a respect sport, not a trash-talking sport.”
