Wrestling legend Terry Funk has died. He was aged 79.

Funk had been diagnosed with dementia and was residing in an assisted living facility.

His wrestling career began in the 60s but he became better known in the United States in the 80s.

Funk featured in America's National Wrestling Alliance, World Championship Wrestling, Extreme Championship Wrestling and WWF Superstars across his career, claiming multiple world titles.

He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame alongside his brother Dory in 2009.

Making a move into the film industry in the late 80s, Funk appeared alongside Patrick Swayze in the action film Road House.

He starred in the sports drama film Paradise Alley, alongside Sylvester Stallone.

Tributes from across the wrestling industry poured in following the announcement of Funk's death.
