Cleveland Browns get their own Christmas miracle in the NFL

Powered by

Luckless fans of NFL side Cleveland Browns received a Christmas miracle when their team pulled off a shock 20-17 victory over the San Diego Chargers.

It was the Browns' first NFL victory since December 13, 2015 and sent their long suffering supporters into ecstasy as broadcast video footage shows.

They sealed their unexpected victory at home on Sunday (AEST) after they blocked a late field goal attempt from Chargers kicker Josh Lambo.

Cleveland players, coaching staff and fans appeared filled with both joy and bemusement by what had happened.

Supporters at the at FirstEnergy Stadium in Ohio, wrapped up against the bitter Midwest winter weather, started jumping up and down with happiness when they realised their team's losing streak was finally over.

Others pumped their fists in the air while in contrast the Chargers players appear dumbfounded they lost to a team of losers.

Going into the match, the Browns were on course to become only the second team to lose all 16 games in an NFL season.

That unwelcome record continues to be held by the 2008 Detroit Lions.
