Kansas City baseballer Johnny Gomes is renowned for his high-spirited celebrations.

But the Royals out fielder claimed an innocent casualty this week after flooring the young child of teammate Jason Vargas as he swung his daughter around following his team's playoff series win over the Houston Astros.

Hitting the pitching mound after the 7-2 victory, Gomes was giving his young daughter a playful swing, when Vargas' child wandered over, seemingly to join in on the fun.

But consumed by his little girl, Gomes failed to see the pint-sized youngster approach as he spun his daughter around, swinging her legs straight into the toddler.

The blow sent the little one reeling to the turf, prompting the shocked 34-year-old to immediately pounce and make sure the tiny tot was okay.

Fortunately the resilient youngster appeared to be fine.

But we can bet Vargas will be keeping a closer reign on the little one after the Royals' next match.
