NFL MVP battered but no concussion test in loss to Denver

After a match in which he was left battered and bruised by the Denver Broncos, Carolina Panthers  quarterback Cam Newton may be the centre of an inquiry into why he didn’t undergo a concussion test until after the match was finished.

Newtown sustained a series of heavy helmet-to-helmet blows during the match, all of which combined to slow the league MVP.

After the final blow, which came deep into the fourth quarter, Newton had to drag himself off the ground.

The NFL is quick to talk about their concern over player safety regarding head blows, yet Newton didn’t undergo a concussion test until after the match.

He conceded as much in the post-match press conference.

‘’People asked me questions…  There was too much going through my head to remember what they said… It (the test) was post game,’’ Newton said.

Medical staff will monitor Newtown’s health leading up to their next match.

The series of blows he endured came after he secured another piece on individual history.

Newtown scrambled for his 44^th rushing touchdown during the match – breaking the record for a quarterback previously held by San Francisco 49ers great Steve Young.
