Paul Gallen to fight Barry Hall in November bout in Melbourne

Paul Gallen will take on former AFL star Barry Hall in a boxing bout in Melbourne in what's being dubbed as the battle of the bad boys which is sure to spark interest from AFL and NRL fans.

Neither Gallen ,38, or Hall,42, have signed contracts but the fight is scheduled to take place on November 14, with both men said to be keen to get into the ring.

Gallen has a professional record of nine wins in as many fights, taking five by the way of KO. Hall was going to take up boxing after his AFL career with the Swans, St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs wrapped up in 2011 but things were put on hold as he focused on his media career.

Boxing champion Danny Green is behind the promotion and is working to get both men on the same page in agreeing to terms.

Gallen told the Herald he hopes everything works itself out.

"At this stage I haven't signed the contract but if Barry wants to fight me, then let's do it, I'm keen as," Gallen said.

"That's something I will jump in and do for sure, but nothing has been finalised.

"I've followed his [AFL] career a bit and from all reports he was an amateur champion. It was obviously a long time ago but he's obviously got some pedigree when it comes to boxing.

"It will be a challenge. We'll see what happens, hopefully it comes off. It will be a big occasion for sure."

Gallen's last win was a second-round KO victory of John Hopoate in February. The recently retired NRL star has always had hopes of fighting All Blacks star Sonny-Bill Williams but while both men have challenged each other over the years, a fight has never materialised.

Knowing the fight with SBW is the fight most sport fans want to see, Gallen said he only wants to get into the ring a handful of times before retiring from professional sport.

"I've always said I'd do a few more fights after footy," Gallen said.

"It won't be five or 10, it's more likely three or four and then that will be it."
