Boxer Hogan warned before world title tilt

Jermall Charlo is expecting an early night when Brisbane contender Dennis Hogan challenges for his WBC middleweight world title later this year in New York.

Irish product Hogan will step up in weight, having been denied an immediate rematch after a controversial loss to Jaime Munguia for the WBO junior middleweight world title in his last fight.

Hogan (28 wins, two losses, one split decision) met American favourite Charlo (29-0 with 21 knock-outs) face to face for the first time on Friday (AEDT) in the United States.

Charlo respects Hogan's style and substance but believes he "isn't on his level" and, after back-to-back decision wins, has a clear objective on December 7 in Brooklyn.

"This is going to be a knockout," he said.

"I'm going to walk him straight into it; I'm going to give him exactly what he wants."

Hogan has urged New York's Irish community to get behind him, but says he won't need to lean on their support.

"I'm looking forward to becoming the next Irish fighter to come to New York and become a world champion," he said.

"I will wear that belt around my waist and paint the town green afterwards.

"I know Charlo is a great fighter but this has nothing to do with him. This is about my destiny and my dream."
