Double amputee has miraculous podium finish in F3 Championship

18-year-old Billy Monger has defied all odds to finish third in the opening race of the British F3 Championship at Oulton Park.

Monger had both his legs amputated last year following a serious crash.

He is able to drive using a special Tatuus Cosworth car, fitted with a throttle on its steering wheel. Monger is also able to brake using a single pedal that is accessible to his prosthetic leg.

"It's a bit surreal but an awesome feeling to even be back," Monger said.

"If you had told me that I'd have been on the podium first race of the year, I would have probably said you were lying to me."

Monger was racing in the Formula 4 last year when he was involved in a crash that nearly claimed him at Donnington Park.

Linus Lundqvist eventually won the race with Nicolai Kjaergaard and Monger rounding out the rest of the podium.
