Student's $10,000 four hoops miracle

An American college student who has never played competitive basketball has won $10,000 after making four consecutive hoops, with a broken finger.

Bryan College's Gustavo Angel Tamayo made a lay-up, a free throw, a three-pointer and a half-court shot in succession to win the money that will go toward his tuition.Tamayo is a soccer player who grew up in England, had a broken finger on his left hand and admitted afterwards that he doesn't even take throw-ins for his football team."It's just football, that's all I do," he said.The school used video cameras to ensure he shot from behind the line, with the contest made all the more difficult because all four shots had to be made within 30 seconds."I'm not sure there's a tougher contest," said the College's basketball coach Don Rekoske."He had to go four for four, and you have to be hurried to make it within 30 seconds. It's a very tough contest to win, but when you win you get paid for it. He won $10,000; some will probably go toward his school bill and some in his pocket."While Tamayo said the secret to his win was concentration, he should also be thankful for a lot of luck. None of his shots were convincing.His lay-up, which would presumably be the easiest of all shots, almost made a complete circle of the ring before falling in.

His free throw was arguably his best shot.

The three-pointer took a huge bounce that could have gone in any direction. Tamayo makes his three pointer.

The half-court shot appeared to take all his might and hammered into the backboard before swooshing through the net.

"It's just an amazing feeling," Tamayo said.

"It was awesome to share it with all my friends."
