A Slovenian basketballer has netted a contender for the sport's greatest shot after a mid-air look-away while falling off court.

Blaz Mahkovic was in action for Union Olympia in a match against Partizan NIS when he stole the show in the fourth quarter.In attempting to retrieve a teammate's shot that had completely missed the basket, Mahkovic threw himself over the end court and while still in the air, blindy heaved the ball behind him in desperation.Vision of the incident shows the ball carry over the backboard and then explicably 'whoosh' through the net for a freak two-pointer.Partizan's players can be seen pausing briefly in disbelief, with the shot summing up their night.They lost the match 58-87.
