Aussie veteran Joe Ingles, 37, poised to make more than $47,000 per minute on new NBA deal

Ben Simmons is still looking for a deal in free agency but fellow Australian veteran Joe Ingles will be in Minnesota for another season.

Ingles, who played a mentoring role for the Timberwolves last season, will return to the NBA franchise on a $5.4 million deal.

It's good money if you can get it, especially since Ingles has not had regular time on the court recently.

The 37-year-old played 19 games and had one start in the 2024-25 season, where he averaged 0.8 points per game with 0.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists in six minutes per clash.

He played 114 minutes last season in total but his value comes from his presence in the locker room and with a salary cap of $235 million this year, Minnesota won't be worrying too much about the Aussie's pay packet, which will take $5.4 million off that number.

If he plays 114 minutes again next season he will be taking home more than $47,000 per minute spent on the court.

Several NBA teams take this route in signing a veteran player to a minimum deal to fill out their roster, with several star players making over $75 million a year.

The news of his deal was met by an post by New York Knicks star Josh Hart, who posted in jest, "Man some tell him to go head and retire already".

Inglis was well known for his time in Utah, spending eight seasons there after joining the NBA from EuroLeague.

He's the franchise leader for most three-pointers at the Jazz, with 1071.

He's also played for the Milwaukee Bucks, Orlando Magic.

Next season will be the Australian's 12th in the league.
