It was a big day for Australians in the NBA with rookie Ben Simmons making his long-awaited debut. But Matthew Dellavedova was getting some attention too.

Milwaukee's Dellavedova had a strong game in the Bucks' 108-100 win over the Celtics in Boston, even nailing a three-pointer in the final minute to help his team get over the line.

The Victorian finished with 15 points, one rebound and one assist in 26 minutes on court.

But the incident that had everyone talking was when Boston's Marcus Smart tripped up trying to go around Dellavedova on the screen. Smart fell to the ground and jumped back and got right up in the Aussie guard's face.

Dellavedova didn't retaliate but didn't back down either before the pair were separated by teammates after a heated exchange of words.

Smart earned a technical foul and Dellavedova was given a personal foul, and the Aussie's 'dirty' reputation among NBA pundits was brought up again.
