Ben Simmons spotted for first time working out pre-game at Philadelphia's home arena

Australian NBA star Ben Simmons looks one step closer to returning to the court after he was seen working out at Philadelphia's home arena.

Prior to the 76ers' clash with the Timberwolves this morning, Simmons took to the floor pre-game at the Wells Fargo Center to work on his jump shot alongside several trainers.

It's the first time this season the 25-year-old has been seen in 76ers colours on game day.

Local reporters and fans in attendance were quick to take to social media after witnessing the Australian working on his craft.

The 2021-22 NBA season is nearly two months in, and Simmons, who has requested a trade out of Philadelphia, is yet to make his return to the court due to mental health reasons.

Earlier this month, Simmons was fined by the Philadelphia 76ers for reportedly failing to travel with the team on a recent road trip.

Respected NBA insider Shams Charania revealed at the time that the 76ers expect Simmons to return to the court "until there's information" from his mental health specialist suggesting otherwise.

Simmons' manager Rich Paul, who also represents Lakers superstar LeBron James, urged the 76ers to support Simmons and not go down the narrative of suggesting that the Australian's mental health issues aren't legitimate.

"I truly believe the fines, the targeting, the negative publicity shined on the issue — that's very unnecessary and has furthered the mental health issues for Ben," Paul said earlier this month.

"Either you help Ben, or come out and say he's lying. Which one is it?"

The three-time NBA All-Star is expected to earn close to $45 million for the 2021-22 NBA season alone.
