John Stockton's son joins NBL's Breakers

The New Zealand Breakers have signed David Stockton, the son of NBA Hall of Famer John Stockton, to replaced injured guard Ben Woodside.

Point guard Stockton, who currently plays with Croatian Euroleague side KK Cedevita Zagreb, joins the Auckland-based NBL side for the remainder of the season.

His countryman and fellow guard Woodside is set to miss around two months of action due to a foot injury.

Woodside suffered foot ligament damage last Friday against Melbourne United, forcing him out of Sunday's NBL home win over the Brisbane Bullets.

Stockton, 25, played three games for Sacramento Kings in the NBA, but has spent most of his career with NBA development league side Reno Bighorns.

He averaged nearly 14 points and six assists with the Cedevita Zagreb.

Breakers general manager Dillon Boucher described Stockton as "a very polished player in all facets of the game, who shows great leadership".

Stockton's father holds the all-time NBA record for assists, sharing a famous, lethal combination with retired powerhouse Utah Jazz forward Karl Malone in the 1990s.

Their statues lie at the front of the Jazz's home Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City.
