Simmons 'doubtful' for Sixers in NBA

Ben Simmons is in doubt for the Philadelphia 76ers' NBA game at the Detroit Pistons after missing training.

The Australian star was withdrawn during the first quarter of the Sixers' win over the Orlando Magic on the weekend due to back tightness, which coach Brett Brown said was a pre-game issue.

Reigning NBA rookie of the year Simmons took no part in Monday's practice before the game with Detroit.

"He's progressing. He did not go through practice today," Brown said.

"I believe our club will put out more information later, but he's progressing."

The Sixers are yet to announce any update on Simmons' fitness.

"I feel like it's smarter for me to do that," Brown replied when asked if Simmons was more likely to miss Tuesday's game.

"If I wake up and I get a pleasant surprise (on his fitness) so be it. But nobody's said he's definitely not playing.

"That's as candid as I can be.

"It will be an easier answer if somebody says, well, he's available.

"... we don't know what's going to happen with Ben tomorrow."

Simmons played 43 minutes and 34 minutes in Philadelphia's opening two games of the season, and was just one assist shy of averaging a triple-double.
