When it comes to professional sport, looking after sponsors only comes second to maintaining performance.

And no one understands that mantra better than LeBron James.

But even the greats sometimes slip up, as was the case for the Cleveland Cavaliers star during a recent interview.

Speaking to reporters in Cleveland, James revealed how McDonalds was a part of his regular diet during his unhealthy early years in the NBA.

But almost as soon as he let slip the comment James, who is paid millions of dollars a year to endorse the fast food giant, feverishly backtracked.

The 30-year-old was asked how old he was when he began lifting weights.

"Umm, 24," he replied. "I ate McDonald’s my first couple years in the NBA. I didn’t stretch. It didn’t matter. I was 18 and I could do whatever I wanted to."

He was then asked when he last ate McDonalds, before going into damage control once the penny dropped.

"Every day. Every day. Every day," James said, according to Cleveland.com.

"I had it this morning. Egg and sausage McMuffin. All day."

Ah LeBron, always remember where your bread - or in this case bun - is buttered.
