NBA superstar LeBron James will reportedly test the free market after deciding to opt out of his $28 million contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

James, who went within two games of single-handily winning the NBA Championship for his hometown club this year, has decided not to activate a player option on the one-year contract he signed when moving from the Miami Heat in 2014.

However, according to Cleveland.com, the two-time champion is expected to re-sign with the franchise for another one-year contract worth $29 million.

It is then expected the 30-year-old to opt out again next year in search of a long-term deal when the NBA's salary cap rises significantly.
