High school kid nails buzzer beater

A high school basketballer in the US has become an overnight hero after sinking an incredible three-quarter court shot at the buzzer to secure victory for his team.

There were just three seconds left on the clock when Kalai Santos, a guard for Punahou High School in Hawaii, collected the ball from a team-mate.

With his team trailing by two points, Santos launched the ball from midway into his own half and watched as it sailed into the net off the backboard for three points.

The incredible score secured a 59-58 win for Punahou and prompted huge cheers from the crowd.

"It could have gone either way," admitted Santos afterwards. "Just a good shot in the end I guess."
