Exum picked by Utah Jazz in NBA Draft

Teenage Australian basketball prodigy Dante Exum has been signed by the Utah Jazz with the fifth overall pick in the NBA Draft in New York.

The Melbourne-born 18-year-old point guard, who a year ago was a high school student in Canberra, will sign a two-year deal worth around $4.5 million a year, to go along with the endorsement deals he has already agreed with Adidas and Red Bull.

Exum was long expected to be taken among the top picks in this year's draft after electing to head straight to the NBA rather than a US college.

Canadian Andrew Wiggins, from the University of Kansas, was drafted No.1 by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Cavaliers had invited Exum to fly to Cleveland for a workout just 24 hours before the draft, but Exum declined.

The Australian Institute of Sport product also worked out with the Milwaukee Bucks, who signed Duke University's Jabari Parker with the second overall pick.

Cameroon-born 213cm centre Joel Embiid, who was tipped as a No.1 pick before fracturing his foot last week, was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers with the third overall pick.
