Basketball player suffers ultimate brain snap

A basketball player has suffered one of the worst brain snaps ever recorded after scoring on his own basket to snatch defeat from certain victory.

Greek side Ae Nea Kifisia thought they were home and hosed in their playoff game against Aris when their rivals missed a free-throw in the shadows of the fulltime siren.

Grabbing the rebound with just five seconds on the clock, Ae Nea Kifisia just needed to run down the clock and the series would be levelled 1-1.

However, the home side didn't count on their American import Jermaine Marshall from completely forgetting which team he played for.

Passed the ball as a teammate tried to escape the press, Marshall strolled up to his own bucket and made the simplest of layups – a mere second after watching his opponent's try to hit the same hoop.

The auditorium was immediately filled by a choir of boos as Marshall, seemingly bewildered by his own mistake, strolled the floor dumbfounded.

The glaring blunder sent the game into extra-time with Aris rubbing a good dose of salt into the wound by winning the game 108-103.
