Basketball coach needs a chill pill

When it comes to courtside intensity Louisville Cardinals backroom staffer Ray Ganong looks like a heart attack waiting to happen.

The college basketball strength and conditioning coach is renowned for his manic courtside activity during matches.

And the 60-year-old was at his fiery best during a recent clash between the Cardinals and the North Carolina Tar Heels.

Perched courtside on a plastic chair, Ganong was captured ranting throughout the match, screaming encouragement at his players to "keep going boys", slapping his seat and punching his fist.

The display prompted one US website to compare the 30-year college basketball veteran to a "tent preacher on drugs".

While many fans were perplexed why a backroom staffer, who does most of his work behind the scenes preparing players, can get so wound up.

Either way Ganong gives new meaning to the word "intense" and makes the most highly strung NRL and AFL coaches, like Melbourne's Craig Bellamy and Hawthorn's Alastair Clarkson look tame.

Time to take a chill pill Ray.
