Basketball Aust CEO Moore to step down

Basketball Australia chief executive Anthony Moore is stepping down after four years in the job.

Moore will depart the governing body later this month, having overseen a period of strong growth in the sport - and having safely ridden out one of the biggest controversies it has seen in this country.

Moore has been credited with turning around BA's finances since beginning the role in October 2014, with revenue more than doubling during his tenure, while he also helped clinch the deal that will see the Boomers take on the United States in a two-game series in Melbourne next year.

But he also earned rave reviews for his up-front handling of the fallout from the ugly brawl that marred Australia's World Cup qualifier in the Philippines in July, and the FIBA sanctions that followed.

"It has been both a privilege and my absolute pleasure to lead the sport I love," Moore said in a statement.

"It's been a great experience to lead through this time of development and success for the sport of basketball.

"We have built the reputation of Basketball Australia here at home and internationally.

"My hope is that next year's Boomers vs USA Basketball games will write basketball's page in the history of Australian sport."

Moore will officially finish up at BA's annual general meeting on October 27, with a search for his replacement already underway.
