Basketball: Announcer asks for forgiveness for lack of faith

It's not often you hear a confession to the Almighty while watching a basketball game. 

But that's exactly what fans got when they tuned in for the exciting finale of the showdown between Young Harris and Montevallo in the US. 

Montevallo looked to have the Division II game all but secure – leading by three points, at the free-throw line and with just a second on the clock. 

But when their player missed the game-clinching free throw, Young Harris guard C.J. Wilson quickly grabbed the ball and bombed a Hail Mary from downtown. 

The shot seemed to be guided by divine intervention as it flew through the air and hit nothing but net to send the home crowd wild. 

None more so than announcer Tom Jenkins. 

"Missed free throw, we still got a chance at the buzzerrrrrrr," Jenkins, in a delightful accent, said. 

"Yes! Yes! Yes! Oh my goodness! Yes! Yes! Yes!  

"Forgive me, Lord, I counted my chickens before they hatched!  

"We knocked down a 3-pointer! It is tied! Point-six seconds when he nailed it!  

"People were already leaving the building! They’re coming back in!" 

However, Jenkins' restored faith was short-lived with Montevallo proving too strong in overtime to claim the win 89-83.
