Baseballer’s 'dying donkey' laugh a hit with fans

US baseballer Brett Phillips has been hailed for having the best laugh in the sport with footage of his "dying donkey" guffaw proving a hit on social media.

The Milwaukee Brewers minor leaguer has had teammates in stitches for some time with his classic laugh but it wasn't until a recent interview that the sports world got a taste of hoot.

Trying to coax the 21-year-old to deliver, Brewers pitcher Will Smith told Phillips a series of dad jokes and right on cue the young gun let rip with his bizarre guffaw.

Teammates describe the laugh as like a "dying donkey, pterodactyl".

And Phillips admits he's been trying to keep it under wraps.

"I've tried to keep it hidden as long as possible. (But the Brewers) caught wind of it and seem to try and bring it out every day now. Which is out of control,"he said.

The outfielder said his laugh was problematic during his school years.

"Class was probably the biggest issue," he said

"If I started laughing everyone would be laughing. It would be kind of a couple-minute excursion.

"And the teacher would be like, 'All right, Phillips, we need you to take some time out of the classroom'."

Phillips's laugh has gone viral on social media but whether is hold up against Australian sports' best laugh – NRL star Johnathan Thurston's kookaburra – is debatable.
