Baseballer crashes into gate, still makes catch

US baseballer Michael Earley has shown nothing can stop him when it comes to pouching a catch - even a steel gate.

The Birmingham Barons outfielder was chasing victory in a Minor League Baseball playoff match in Alabama when he pounced on a hit from Chattanooga Lookouts batter Angel Sanchez and gained worldwide fame this week.

But it wasn't so much for the catch, but what came next.

As this footage shows, Earley makes a fantastic leaping catch on the run, only to find himself zeroing in on an outfield fence.

Without time to stop, the 26-year-old turns and jumps into the boundary, only to tumble through the visitor's bullpen gate and miraculously hold the catch.

The Barons, an affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, eventually went on to win the Southern League Northern Division playoff clash 6-5 in the 10th inning.
