Wayward pitch turns into greatest trick shot

An MLB baseball player has inadvertently performed one of the sport's greatest trick shots after his wayward pitch inexplicably ended up in the umpire's pocket.

The almost magical moment occurred when Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Jeff Locke faced up to San Diego Padres' Jemile Weeks.

However, Locke's radar suddenly went haywire and his low, wild pitch hit the dirt and reared up in front of Weeks with the 29-year-old just evading the ugly pitch.

But what happens next is a case for 'Unsolved Mysteries' with Weeks' body blocking the camera from catching the miracle play.

One can assume the ball ricocheted off Weeks or Pirates catcher Chris Stewart, popped up into the air and landed perfectly in the pocket of the umpire's shirt.

But that would be mere speculation.

Whatever occurred, it left Stewart comically spinning around in search for the phantom ball and the commentators in agreement the errant-throw-cum-trick-shot was a first for the sport.
