Oh how the mighty can fall. Or in the case of the Wallkill Mighty Mites, the not-so-mighty.

The New York junior gridiron team was recently brought undone by a team banner, with the youngsters getting coat-hangered in comical fashion as they tried to burst through it during a post-match celebration.

Having just won their opening home game of the season 24-0 the Mighty Mites left the field to burst through the home made banner with parents and cheerleaders lined alongside.

But unfortunately the lightweight six and seven-year-olds were unable to breach the plastic and the lead runners got floored by the impact.

Then like lemmings dropping off a cliff, the rest of the team continued on, dropping one after another, before most of the team finished in a pile on the ground.

The video has become a smash hit on social media, featuring on news sites across the US and placing the youngsters among a long line of amateur and professional sports teams brought to earth by a stubborn banner.

Perhaps crepe paper will be a better option next time. Bless them.
