Bandits steal ABL series win in Perth

The Brisbane Bandits have continued their early dominance of the Australian Baseball League season with a series win in Perth.

The Bandits (8-4) won 3-1, clinching their first ABL series away to the Heat after extending their club-record winning streak to seven games with victories in the first two games against Perth (6-6).

Queenslander David Sutherland became the first player in the new ABL to reach 200 career hits with the Bandits star reaching the milestone on a single in the fifth inning of the second game won 7-3 by Brisbane.

The Heat won the next game 3-2 in extra innings, but Brisbane scored a pair of runs late in the series finale for a 2-0 victory.

The Canberra Cavalry also stayed hot, winning the team's third straight series and maintaining the top spot on the league ladder.

Canberra (9-3) hosted the Sydney Blue Sox (5-7) for four games and won the series on a dramatic walk-off in the series finale.

Adelaide Bite (4-8) enjoyed home field advantage for the first time this season, hosting the Melbourne Aces, and snapped a six-game losing streak with a win in the opening game of the series.

The next day, Melbourne (4-8) outlasted Adelaide 5-4 in a five-hour, 15-inning contest.

Adelaide concluded the series with a Sunday doubleheader sweep, led by Seattle Mariners prospect Kyle Petty, who smashed the game-winning home run in the first game as the Bite won 10-8.

A five-run fourth inning in the second game propelled the Bite to both the game and series wins.
