Jockey Avdulla fined after Oaks win
Jockey Brendan Avdulla has been fined by Victoria Racing Stewards after his incredible ride in the Oaks.
Despite delivering one of the most memorable rides in recent memory on the back of 100-1 chance Lasqueti Spirit, stewards weren’t too happy with the way Avdulla celebrated after the win.
Avdulla stood high in the stirrups and waved to the crowd while still on his ride.
The rules state that the jockey's job is to ride a horse to the line and partaking in elaborate celebrations could lead to an unnecessary accident and place both horse and rider at risk.
He was handed a fine of $1000 but the affable jockey said he caught up in the moment.
'I just stood up and I've got no idea why I bowed,' he said. 'Looking back at it now, it is a pretty good one but it was just a spur of the moment thing.
