AFLW player tests positive to COVID-19

A Richmond AFLW player has tested positive for COVID-19 during pre-season training.

The Tigers confirmed one of their players returned a positive from a pre-training rapid antigen test on Saturday.

The training session was called off and the entire squad had to isolate and await instructions from Victoria's health department.

The player also tested positive to the virus on Monday.

"While the person did not enter the facility or mix with people at the club on Saturday, out of an abundance of caution, all other members of the Richmond AFLW bubble were tested over the weekend, with each returning a negative result," Richmond said.

The AFLW season is due to kick off on January 6.

The only other time a positive COVID-19 test has impacted AFL or AFLW players was when then-Essendon player Conor McKenna tested positive in June 2020.
