The St Kilda Football Club are under pressure from the AFL regarding the club’s poor financial state, says Nine’s Footy Classified panelist Caroline Wilson.

Speaking to Adelaide’s FIVEaa radio station, Wilson said that the Saints have “no more excuses”.

“We know now their debt is as bad as Brisbane and more than Port Adelaide’s,” said Wilson.

“There’s just a view that Port seem to be doing a bit more regarding their financial problems and some of their debt is what the AFL calls good debt.”

According to Wilson, St Kilda’s poor financials have caught the eye of the AFL’s CEO Gillon McLachlan.

“I think the AFL are pretty worried about St Kilda. They need to perform on the field too in my view,” said Wilson.

“Gillon McLachlan basically put St Kilda on notice in my view,” she said.

“He’s actually said they need to lift their game, they need to improve their profit and loss, they need to improve their business.”

The AFL has granted St Kilda an added marquee game this year with the Saints scheduled to play on Good Friday, taking on North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium.
