What's featured in the AFL pay bonanza

THE NEW AFL PAY DEAL IS A LOT MORE THAN A LOT OF MONEY

* The six-year, $1.84 billion deal features an immediate 20 per cent pay increase for players this year

* The average AFL player wages (excluding rookies) jumps from $309,000 in 2016 to $371,000 this year

* During the six year, each club's salary cap will jump from $10.37 million last year to $13.54 million in 2022

* For the first time, AFL player wages are tied to industry revenue - players will receive 28 per cent of AFL revenues and 11.2 per cent of club revenues above forecasts

* But some revenue streams are excluded, including from the AFLW and all revenue from Etihad Stadium as the AFL pays off the loan on the venue

* The minimum rookie wage increases to $71,500 this year

ALSO ...

* There is an extra $6 million of funding into player retirement accounts

* More money for injury and hardship support, along with player education, development and wellbeing programs

* $250,000 for concussion research, funded by AFL tribunal fines

* Twelve business-class seats per flight for the WA teams on west-east trips

* Business or premium economy seats for international flights other than NZ

* Single-room accommodation cost removed from club soft caps

* Players will no longer have to contribute to the cost of pre-season camps

* Eight grand final tickets for each player on the two teams and 1000 for distribution among the other players

* Players will no longer have to be restricted free agents before they earn unrestricted status.
