Swans star Jack 'would quit AFL for NRL'

Sydney star Kieren Jack has risked ruffling the Swans' feathers ahead of the finals by indicating his willingness to quit AFL for rugby league.

The Swans co-captain, who has played 160 games for Sydney since making his debut in 2007, said he would happily consider a switch to the NRL, where his father forged his career.Garry Jack played fullback for the Balmain Tigers, represented NSW on 17 occasions and played 20 Tests for Australia."You'd never say never, I tell you," Jack told Triple M’s The Grill Team."I mean I loved rugby league as a kid, I certainly did but I've found a path in AFL and I'm rapt with that, but I mean I can certainly see why players do it ... it's certainly a big challenge and there is a bit of a financial reward there but the challenge it offers these players … it can be really rewarding."Pressed for a definitive answer the 27-year-old then added: "I'll just say yes ... yes ... why not?"Jack's comments come a week after former NRL star Karmichael Hunt announced he was calling time on his AFL career with Gold Coast.Hunt managed just 44 senior matches from 2011-14, but was being paid almost as much as the AFL's highest earning footballers.

While some claimed Hunt's recruitment was a masterstroke in marketing, AFL great Leigh Matthews described it as 'ill-advised' and said he hopes it 'never happens again'.

The NRL is believed to be readying itself for an aggressive push to grow the game across Australia and may seize on Jack's comments to 'get one back' on their AFL rivals.

Israel Folau was also poached from rugby league to join fledgling AFL club, Greater Western Sydney.

Folau has since moved to rugby where he is enjoying a glittering career with the NSW Waratahs and Australian Wallabies.
