'It was his dream': Crows draftee James Rowe's father breaks down on radio recalling selection
South Australian radio host Stephen Rowe has broken down on air when recalling the moment his son James was drafted by the Adelaide Crows.
Speaking on Adelaide's FIVEaa, Rowe explained how his son was left devastated when Carlton passed on him with the 37th pick in the draft, only for the Crows to select him with the next pick.
"Carlton was pick 37 and he walked out of the lounge room, went into his bedroom and shut the door and he couldn't even hear it," he said.
"He was overlooked there and then the Crows had the very next pick. I said, 'Son, could they pick you here?', and he couldn't talk.
"When they yelled out Jimmy Rowe we just exploded."
Rowe broke down into tears when explaining how Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks visited his son at midnight to deck him out in Crows gear.

"I stopped crying at 3:30 in the morning," he said.
"Matthew Nicks came around about midnight and he put a Crows hat on his head and a Crows polo shirt. It was his dream."
Rowe was one of five selections for the Crows on draft night, joining Riley Thilthorpe (2), Luke Pedlar (11), Brayden Cook (25) and Sam Berry (28).
