Carlton legend Sergio Silvagni dead, aged 83

The AFL community is in mourning following the death of Carlton legend Sergio 'Serge' Silvagni who has died aged 83.

The Blues icon, who is father to full-back-of-the-century Stephen and current club forward Jack passed away on Thursday morning.

Silvagni played 239 games for Carlton between 1958 and 1971, winning premierships in 1968 and 1970.

Silvagni was named in Carlton's team of the century and was inducted into the club's hall of fame in 2016.

Following his retirement in 1971, Silvagni held several off-field roles at Carlton, including becoming a committee member, selector and reserves coach.

He is survived by wife Rita, son Stephen and three daughters Lisa, Danielle and Michelle.
