Saints to use top AFL pick for Shiel deal

St Kilda are prepared to put their prized first-round AFL draft pick on the table as they try to secure GWS star Dylan Shiel.

The Saints are among four Victorian clubs who have expressed interest should Shiel confirm he wants to break his contract and head home.

Hawthorn, Essendon and Carlton are also waiting on Shiel, with a decision expected in the next two days.

On Friday, Saints list manager James Gallagher was adamant their round-one draft pick, which will be at No.4, would not be used if they traded for Shiel.

But Saints football manager Simon Lethlean said on Monday that nothing would be off limits.

"All assets are on the table to get a deal done," Lethlean said.

"We're keen on Dylan if he's keen on us - we'll make it work.

"We haven't been told no, so until we are it's a yes."

Lethlean said they will also have preliminary discussions with Sydney about a trade deal for Dan Hannebery, who wants to join the Saints.

Melbourne utility Dean Kent has also nominated St Kilda.

Ruckman Tom Hickey might head to West Coast while St Kilda are hopeful that forward Jack Lonie, who is overseas, will re-sign soon.
