Roos AFL coach Scott takes aim at cowards

North Melbourne coach Brad Scott has hit out at cowards who target individuals for milking free kicks for high contact, declaring every AFL player is trying to do the same.

The controversy over the issue flared again after the match between Scott's Kangaroos and Sydney at the SCG on Friday evening.

North forward Lindsay Thomas kicked two first half goals from free kicks awarded for high contact.

Young Swan George Hewett also kicked a goal after another high contact call.

Both Scott and his Swans counterpart John Longmire felt the AFL needed to review the rule.

Scott said the players were being incentivised because they were being awarded free-kicks.

"While they continue to get paid then players will keep doing it," Scott said.

"There will be cowards out there who single out individuals, but every player in the competition tries to do it."

Longmire said he wouldn't be contacting the AFL over the issue.

"I'm not there to tell the decision makers what to do, I'm there to coach a team to play a game of footy, that's what I do," Longmire said.

Asked whether he coached his players to go in low Longmire said "I try to, but it's very hard.

"It's a split-second decision, it's very difficult for them to do.

"We gave away a couple of free kicks but in the end, I didn't have a close look at the replays and they might have been there, so what do you do?"
