Footy Show funnyman Shane Crawford has helped solve a burning question stemming from Rebecca Maddern's debut as co-host of the program.

As Maddern settled in for her second night on the show, Crawford marked his introduction by running on stage and waving a giant hand featuring the words 'be an idiot'.

While it was initially presumed to be just another prop in his courtroom jester routine, Crawford soon revealed the point, pressing Maddern on what was really scribbled on her left hand during her debut.

The notes had left some viewers puzzled.

Maddern set the record straight.

“I had a lot of radio interviews in the morning talking to people I wasn’t familiar with, and I just had their names written on my hand,” Maddern said.

Crawford, however, knew better and pushed Maddern a little further.

“Sam (Newman)’s tradition is to have a bubble bath, I have a shower. So you didn’t have a wash at all before the show?” said the former Hawthorn player.

“Well I did, it was just a very strong pen,” Maddern replied, before the truth was finally revealed... a note that reminded her of what co-host James Brayshaw’s name actually was.
