Port Adelaide have cleared Nathan Krakouer over the Perth nightclub incident that left the AFL defender with a broken jaw.

The club said on Friday their investigation supported Krakouer's version on the incident - that he was the victim an unprovoked attack - and it was now closed.

Krakouer will still serve a Port leadership group-imposed suspension for drinking while rehabilitating an injury, but there will be no further penalty.

The jaw injury is expected to sideline 27-year-old Krakouer until at least round six anyway.

The nightclub incident happened when Krakouer was back in his home city on a club-sanctioned three-day pass after Port closed its pre-season with a NAB Challenge win against Richmond in Melbourne.

Krakouer did not play in that match as he was recuperating from a hamstring strain.

The club said any further investigation of the incident was in the hands of Western Australia police.
