North plan to re-draft Daw in AFL

Majak Daw will most likely be in the midst of his rape trial when North Melbourne plan to retain him through the AFL rookie draft.

The Kangaroos made two changes to their list on Thursday, delisting the 24-year-old ruck-forward and Kieran Harper.

But North added they want to keep Daw on their list by naming him in the November 27 rookie draft.

Daw has pleaded not guilty to raping a teenage girl in 2007 and his County Court trial will start on November 23 or 24.

There is obvious uncertainty surrounding Daw's AFL future, given the seriousness of the court case.

But the AFL's first Sudanese player also only managed two senior games this season.

Daw has played 16 AFL games since his much-anticipated 2013 debut.

"Majak has certainly shown glimpses of what he can do and we will aim to re-draft him as a rookie in November's draft," said North list manager Cameron Joyce.
