A world-class name could be heading Down Under for the upcoming AFL grand final, with legendary American rapper Snoop Dogg in line to headline the pre-match entertainment.

Nine's chief AFL reporter Tom Morris reports that Snoop Dogg is on the AFL's radar to perform in front of the 100,00 footy fans set to pack the MCG on the last Saturday in September.

With hits like 'Beautiful' and 'Drop It Like It's Hot', the hip-hop icon Snoop Dogg has released over 20 studio albums across more than 30 years and has sold over 37 million albums worldwide.

The AFL has not confirmed the reports but said that an announcement is imminent.

"The pre-game entertainment at the AFL grand final is always a talking point and we're hoping to make an announcement shortly," an AFL spokesperson told 9News Melbourne.

"We are excited to deliver another world-class show in front of 100,000 fans at the 'G and the millions more watching the broadcast ahead of the biggest game of the season."

Snoop Dogg will be performing in the Philippines just two days before the grand final.

Previous headline acts include a slate of big international names, including Katy Perry, Robbie Williams and Kiss in recent years.

Snoop Dogg previously co-headlined the Super Bowl LVI halftime show alongside Dr Dre, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar in 2022.

He also served as a hugely popular "special correspondent" for NBC during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Radio host Russel Howcroft told 3AW's The Rumour File that the AFL is taking "full control" of booking the grand final entertainment this year, rather than outsourcing it to a third party as they may have done previously.

This suggests a more direct approach from the AFL in securing acts.

The 2025 AFL grand final is scheduled for Saturday, September 27.
