The AFL has the opportunity to land one of its biggest entertainment acts of all time for this year's grand final.

The Foo Fighters will be in south east Asia on tour in October, with AFL broadcaster Dwayne Russell pointing out that they are available and nearby at the perfect moment.

Russell outlined the logistics and laid down the challenge to league CEO Andrew Dillon, saying he should explore the possibility.

"It would be a big act to put on pre game. It would be awesome," Russell told SEN.

"Andrew Dillon has a chance here to land the Foo Fighters, who are playing in Indonesia on Thursday October 2nd, five days (after) the AFL grand final in Melbourne.

"From Indonesia they head to Singapore to headline the entertainment at the Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix. Then they've got dates in Japan.

"It's a five-six hour flight from Jakarta to Melbourne, so it's a pretty easy one for them to come down here for our grand final and go bang.

This year's grand final takes place on Saturday September 27, with the Foo Fighters beginning their tour of Asia in Jakarta on October 2.

The AFL has turned to the likes of Katy Perry, KISS and Robbie Williams in recent years for the half time entertainment.

Perry, last year's choice, was reportedly paid $1.4m to perform on the day, similar to the reported figure Williams was paid in 2022.

The Foo Fighters will join Elton John, Crowded House and The Smashing Pumpkins as part of the entertainment for the Singapore Grand Prix in October.
