Essendon young gun receives mixed verdict from AFL's concussion panel
Essendon utility Nik Cox has been ruled out for the remainder of the season, but has been given the all clear to continue his AFL career.
The news comes after the 23-year-old fronted the league's concussion panel following a series of head knocks across his short career.
He has not featured at AFL level this season after being concussed at training in December and then had symptoms re-emerge after two games in the VFL.

The same panel ended West Coast champion Jeremy McGovern's career earlier in the season.
The AFL has been hammered with premature retirements forced by concussion of late, with Melbourne star Angus Brayshaw, Collingwood defender Nathan Murphy and Brisbane veteran Marcus Adams among those who have been forced out of the game.
In 2024, Western Bulldogs 18-year-old draftee Aiden O'Driscoll was forced into retirement after a significant head injury suffered during his very first summer at the club.
Essendon released a statement saying Cox is excited to have the opportunity to rebuild his AFL career, even if it won't be this year.
"After meeting with an independent AFL medical panel regarding my concussion history, I'm pleased that I've been cleared to continue my playing career," Cox said via the club's website.
"Whilst I'm disappointed that I won't return to the field for the remainder of the 2025 season, this time away from the game will be used to focus fully on my health, recovery, and building the strongest possible foundation heading into pre-season.
"I'm incredibly grateful to my club, teammates, medical staff, and everyone who has supported me through what's been a challenging and uncertain period. I've learned a lot about myself over the past few months, and I'm more motivated than ever to get back to doing what I love.
"My focus now is on continuing to work closely with specialists and the club to make sure I'm in the best place physically and mentally to return to football."

Club general manager of footy Daniel McPherson added: "Nik has endured a really difficult period with his ongoing concussion symptoms, and we're fully committed to helping him recover both physically and mentally".
Cox has played 53 games for the Dons since being selected with pick eight in the 2020 AFL draft.
Meanwhile, Essendon pair Zach Reid (hamstring) and Jye Caldwell (ankle) will undergo surgery, with both likely ruled out for the season.
It comes amid an injury crisis at the Bombers, with as many as 15 players likely to be named on their injury list ahead of round 18's clash with Richmond.
Essendon small forward Isaac Kako was named this week's AFL rising star nominee.
