Swans champion Luke Parker makes 'extremely difficult' trade call after grand final loss

Sydney veteran Luke Parker has officially requested a trade to North Melbourne, dubbing the decision an "extremely difficult" one.

It comes just days after Parker's Swans were demolished by Brisbane in the grand final, to the tune of 60 points.

Parker has been heavily linked to the Kangaroos throughout the season.

"The decision to part ways with the club after 14 years has been an extremely difficult choice, one I thought I'd never have to make," Parker said in a Swans statement on Wednesday.

"Coming to Sydney as a 19-year-old completely changed my life.

"My most valued memories have been forged here, alongside a group of teammates who have become like brothers, and with fans who have shown me more love than I could have ever imagined deserving.

"The Sydney Swans will always hold a special place for my family and I."

The half forward is contracted until the end of the 2025 season, meaning the Swans will work with the Kangaroos to come to a fair trade.

Parker played 293 games in the red and white after being drafted in 2010.

He is a three-time club best and fairest and a 2012 premiership player.

However, he'll move to North Melbourne without a further four possible premiership medals around his neck.

Parker played in all five of Sydney's grand finals from 2012 to 2024, but only has one win to show for it.

Swans coach John Longmire thanked the 31-year-old for his unwavering service to the club.

"He has been one of the hardest and most competitive players we've had and his resilience and ability to keep backing up, time after time, is something I always admired," he said.

The AFL trade period begins on Monday.
