Essendon fans who hurled abuse towards the playing group after their 53-point loss to St Kilda on Saturday night, have been urged to direct their anger elsewhere.

As Bombers players walked off Marvel Stadium, down the race and into their rooms, fans yelled abuse, including profanities.

Fans also could be heard booing as the group walked off.

It comes after Essendon lost their fourth game in five matches, which has seen them drop from second on the ladder, to 10th.

It's a huge drop-off and one that fans are obviously fed up with.

"You're a bunch of f---ing frauds," one could be heard saying via a video that has now gone viral on X.

On top of that post-match abuse, one fan was caught on camera during the game, throwing his scarf onto the turf, with just under a minute left to play.

AFL fans association president Ron Issko condemned the acts of fans on Sunday.

"There was some swearing, there was some aggression towards the players," he said.

"Let's put your passion towards encouraging your players."

The bad news continues to roll for the Bombers, with key defender Jordan Ridley ruled out with an innocuous injury sustained in the match.

Ridley will miss at least a week after tweaking his hip flexor.
