How lifelong Richmond fan Harvey Langford's dreams could come true on AFL Draft night

While Harvey Langford doesn't really mind what club he lands at during the AFL Draft on Wednesday night, he's still got a boyhood dream of playing for Richmond.

The lifelong Tigers fan could go at pick one, which belongs to Richmond and land at the club he grew up supporting.

But the 18-year-old midfielder, who has attributes of players like Patrick Cripps, is as humble as ever ahead of the biggest night of his life.

"I'm a Tigers fan, it would be pretty amazing to end up there," he told 9News Melbourne on Tuesday night.

"But I'd be very grateful, wherever I end up, whether that's interstate or Victoria. Just can't wait for it."

After a dominant draft season, Langford was crowned co-Larke medallist after performing for Vic Country, averaging 25.5 disposals and 6.2 clearances in 2024.

Standing at 190cm, it's not just his height that has recruiters excited.

It's also his booming left foot.

Meantime, fellow midfield prospect Levi Ashcroft is patiently waiting to land at the Brisbane Lions as a father-son pick.

He could also go with pick one, but the Lions will match the bid to bring Ashcroft home, where he will join brother and reigning Norm Smith Medallist Will Ashcroft up north.

"Just looking forward to living out my childhood dream, to be an AFL player," he said.

As for what he's expected to bring to the tables, Ashcroft just wants to find his feet with the reigning premiers.

"Get in there and get to work and earn the respect of all the guys there," he said.

The AFL draft begins on Wednesday night, with the top prospects already in Melbourne for the event.
