Fresh off helping Australia retain the Ashes in England, Test cricket bowler Nathan Lyon has shown his skills go beyond the cricket pitch.

At Fox Footy's longest kick contest, 'Gary' stepped up in the 'celebrity' category, taking on teammate Pat Cummins and booted a Sherrin a massive 60.5 metres.

"That is huge!" said host Jason Dunstall.

Cummins, in response was far from shabby himself, kicking his effort 58 metres.

The pair were taking part in the event raising money for charity.

The competition is a fan favourite at recent grand finals in Melbourne with AFL players set the challenge of kicking it as far as they can across the Yarra River from Birrarung Marr.

Melbourne Demons midfielder Clayton Oliver went on to win the AFL longest kick contest, with AFLW star Tayla Harris finishing third with an incredible 61.5 metres.
