When you’re travelling as badly as Essendon is, Monday’s are always fraught with danger.
…and so it was for Assistant Coach Mark Neeld in particular.
At a time when most were pointing the finger at senior coach John Worsfold, it was Neeld who cleaned out his desk.
The official line from the club is that he resigned from his post as game performance coach.

A scapegoat perhaps for the club’s miserable start to the year which has seen it slump to 15 on the ladder with just two wins from its eight matches.
No-one at the club is foolish to think this is the last head to roll if the slide continues, as it probably will after a showdown with the high flying Geelong at the MCG on Saturday afternoon.
John Worsfold will be forced to make drastic changes at the selection table, as foreshadowed by him at his media conference following the embarrassing loss to Carlton lasdt weekend.
It would be nothing of a surprise to see at least four players dumped.
The Bombers need to make a statement.
They made one today… unfortunately for Mark Neeld, he’s become the full stop.
