US vice president barracks for Carlton at MCG

Powered by

US Vice President Joe Biden has become a Blues supporter as he presented the game ball at the Carlton-West Coast AFL clash at the MCG today during his visit to Melbourne.

Biden was flanked by Secret Service agents and his motorcade was escorted by Victoria Police while a full scale security scan of the area Mr Biden entered also took place.

Biden was greeted by AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan, AFL chairman Mike Fitzpatrick and fellow league luminaries, getting a tour of the ground before he presented the game ball.

He was also given a Carlton jumper by injured captain Marc Murphy.

Biden took the opportunity to wish Foreign Minister Julie Bishop a happy birthday at the game, and watched it alongside Collingwood's US recruit Mason Cox and Blues rookie Matt Korcheck.

His granddaughters Natalie, Finnegan and Naomi were also in attendance.

Biden chose to barrack for the Blues in the big clash, which apparently didn’t bother West Coast at all.

Mr Biden is in Australia to support the opening of the Peter Mac Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Melbourne.
